Favorite Friday Favorites

General / General : Eleanor Haley

This is no lie, I spent the whole morning on the internet looking for articles to link to in this weeks ‘Friday Favorites’.   I sorted through 50 e-mails from Google Alerts and scrolled through Tweets for 45 minutes only to throw my hands in the air and say “Forget It!”.  Perhaps I’m undermining myself here but I sometimes think there’s only so much time I can spend on the internet reading about grief before everything starts to sound the same.  Yes…definitely undermining myself.  Anyway, because I don’t have anything new that’s intriguing or inspiring, I am instead going to share some of my favorite ‘Friday Favorites’.

A Cure For the Mother’s Day Blues:

This was actually posted when were doing ‘Weekend Editions’ instead of ‘Friday Favorites’, but the concept is the same.  Here’s an excerpt and my favorite highlight:

Usually on Sundays we bring you the ‘Weekend Update’ with interesting articles and helpful links from around the web, but now that were already a few hours in to Mother’s Day we don’t think a helpful article is going to make a darn bit of difference. Instead were going to bring you something seemingly more useless – random videos on the internet that make us smile.

40 Inspirational Speeches in 2 minutes

Friday Favorites: Suicide Prevention Week Edition:

Excerpt: Working in grief and mental health we see the complexity of suicide: the need for prevention and mental health treatment, the complicated grief that can accompany a suicide death, and the stigma that continues to exist around both mental health treatment and suicide deaths.

Though our end of week wrap-up often features new grief stuff we have stumbled on this week, in honor of Suicide Prevention Week, we wanted to share links and resources (new and old) that we love and think are important to the many aspects of suicide (grief and prevention).

The Trevor Project: Talk to Me

Kicking the Thanksgiving Blues:

Excerpt:  Instead from me you are just going to get a list of things that make me happy.  Lame?  Maybe.  Okay, probably.  But that is what I need today.  That is what I need this Thanksgiving.   And if it isn’t what you need, come back for a visit on Friday.   Because today putting these clips together will hopefully make me just a little bit happier and, for the sake of self-care, I need some good old fashioned happy.

The Happiest Facts to Make You Smile

 A Motivational Friday Favorites:

Excerpt: Sorry if you came looking for our usual run down of grief related articles, today I need a little motivation instead. I’ve been down for a few weeks and I think I’m almost ready for my ‘I’m Every Woman’ moment. This is the moment in any self-repecting movie when the heroine, who has just lost her job or been dumped or experienced some other such hardship; picks herself up off the floor, changes out of her ice-cream stained sweatpants, goes to the gym, gets bangs, puts on a kick-ass outfit, and shows the world what she’s capable of. Yep, that’s gonna be me….soon…I swear…minus the bangs.

Okay that enough for me.  Come back next week, I promise to actually post our Friday favorites next time.  Seriously…I promise.
