In 1996, Klass, Silverman, and Nickman shed light on an important bereavement concept in the book Continuing Bonds: New Understandings of Grief. Their work questioned linear models of grief that are supposed to lead to things like acceptance, detachment, and new life and suggested a paradigm in which it is normal for the bereaved to continue their bond with the deceased.

In this webinar, participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the principles of continuing bonds theory. After this session, participants will…

  • Understand how continuing bonds theory relates to other predominate grief theories
  • Have a better understanding of what a ‘continued bond’ looks like
  • Understand the role of continued bonds in coping
  • Identify behaviors, beliefs, and attitudes that help to foster a continued bond
  • Identify the types of rituals that been shown to be most healing
